Depression is a mood disorder. We all have sad days and sadness is a normal emotion. This is not depression. If you are experiencing depression you may notice the following symptoms:

  • Depressed or irritable mood most of the day, nearly every day, over a two week period
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in all, or almost all, activities most of the day, nearly every day
  • Significant weight loss when not dieting or weight gain 
  • Sleep problems (Insomnia-not able to sleep) or hypersomnia (sleeping too much) nearly every day.
  • Fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day.
  • Feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt
  • Difficulties thinking or concentrating, or making decisions, nearly every day
  • Recurring thoughts of death and suicidal ideation
